Less: The new future is circular
The imagery of progress moves us up and away from the circle of the earth: we climb the corporate ladder, we climb Jacob’s ladder, we construct towers of Babel, we reach for the stars. Corporate board rooms are on top floors of office towers. But we can no longer keep heading onward and upward, leaving the earth and the majority of humanity behind.

The Great Turning
If you look, I bet you can see it. But first you may have to turn off your TV. And go outside. It would probably help if you befriended a stranger. Or at least said hi to someone who looks awkward with poverty. Next, consider a cut in pay, and then save on travel – commit to propelling yourself more often.

I have the illusion I have always been here; before there was anything, there was Prado. My thoughts take logical, right angle turns and feed electricity to my fan, my paper chandelier, my clock above my exit. -

I only know a few
I drive to church with my family every Sunday because we want to. Its a big new building that many are proud of. I like church a little. I love God a lot. I like people most times, but I have trouble recognizing some of them with their masks on. Sunday is too busy to meet people anyway.

Fundamentally divided?
“I think it’s important that the ‘culture wars’ of the last two decades be reframed as a war against constructive dialogue and toward a rampaging, ugly partisanship that is demeaning, full of personal attacks, and sweepingly simplistic.” We’re all losing here. In this environment, civility might be the stealth weapon that, skirmish by skirmish and conversation by conversation, wins the war.

On who is right
Here at Geez, we are perhaps prone to make sport of the excess and blessed sentimentality of the Jesus-in-my-heart-and-I’m-on-my-way-to-heaven-‘cause-the-Bible-says-so Christians. So, for this issue, we are taking a deep breath, steeling our belief in tolerance and engaging our evangelical neighbors in sincere dialogue. Forgive us if we slip from time to time.
