Announcement: Consumption Sabbath
Hey friends of Geez,
We’re co-sponsoring an old fashioned tent revival meeting with a radical twist: it’s on Earth Day, so we’re inviting people to admit their complicity in an over-consumptive society and take a pledge to shift their thinking (change their hearts?) and, hopefully, change their ways.
Come one, come all . . . bring your fossil fuel confessions to the altar (literally). Testify to the healing power of local food, pedal-powered transportation and other sustainable solutions.
Consumption Sabbath
Street March, Tent Meeting, Radical Revival
Sunday, April 22:
9:30 a.m.
Walk starts at Omand’s Creek Park (Raglan St. at Wolseley Ave.)
It’s a human-powered pilgrimage to the tent site.
10:15 a.m.
Join walkers at Vimy Ridge Park (Home St. at Portage Ave.)
for a shorter walk to the site.
11:00 a.m.
Tent meeting in Memorial Park (just north of the Legislature)
Gather under a tent, wail and praise with the choir, hear “testimonies” from the “converted” and be challenged by a sermon delivered with retro-charisma and social justice relevance.
If you can, we invite you to honour consumption sabbath by walking, cycling, or taking the bus to this event. For more information, see www.consumptionsabbath.com
