Is working less hours utopian, or dream destroying?

The usual reaction people have in tough times is to work harder and for more hours a day. But working more may actually make the economy worse, despite what it may seem. In a world that has an excess of labour market, and a marked decrease in investment, longer working hours lead to more unemployment. In this opinion piece for The Guardian Juliet Schor examines the economics of working less. Is working less a utopian dream, or an impossibility for the 99%?
