Circulation Fulfillment Manager
Approx. 7-10 hours/week
PAY $15/hour
As a contract position, there will be no deductions taken from this rate, and no benefits paid. In early February, Geez will provide a 1099 form for reporting the income on your taxes.

Geez magazine is a quarterly, nonprofit, ad-free, print magazine about social justice, art, and activism for people at the fringes of faith in both Canada and the U.S. Our aim is to nurture a community of faith-oriented folks that are concerned about the environment, peace, racial and gender justice, decolonization, and other social concerns. At best, we offer a prophetic and provocative voice to the institutional church and a pastoral presence to those labouring at the front lines of social change.
ABOUT THE POSITION
Geez magazine is looking for a part-time Circulation Fulfillment Manager to lead, create, and execute strategies to grow our subscription and donor base. The ideal candidate will have aligned values, a meticulous sense of process and data tracking, and confidence communicating with subscribers and donors via email, letter writing, and phone calling.
The selected candidate must live in metro-Detroit. While much of the work is flexible and can be done at home or during odd hours, fulfillment of orders and regular meetings require regular in-person work at our office in Detroit.
RESPONSIBILITIES
1. Circulation and fulfillment: Receive and track mail and website orders • Respond to subscriber queries • Coordinate and mail renewal notices and provide reports • Coordinate mass mailing and batch shipments of magazines • Track orders of back issues and merchandise • Process shipping at the post office once a week • Collect and deposit payments (via Stripe and cheque), forward information to bookkeeper • Perform miscellaneous administrative tasks as necessary
2. Monthly donor care: Manage donations from monthly donors, respond to queries • Set up new accounts and monitor credit card expirations • Call and email donors to build and grow relationships • Write thank yous and organise donor gifts
3. Promotion: In partnership with the editor, plan and execute promotional efforts. • Develop renewal strategies including partnerships with universities, churches, and libraries • Create gift subscription campaigns • Strategize and execute select mailings to prospective subscribers, special events, and campaigns.
Required Skills and Qualifications:
Experience with data entry and mail merge
Proficiency in Excel
Experience with (or ability to learn) basic back-end website navigation
Excellent written and verbal skills
Comfortability cold-calling
A love of regular visits to the post office
Ability to lift 30 pound boxes up/down 3 flights of stairs
Valid driver’s license and reliable vehicle
Experience in customer service or sales
Ability to prioritize and complete tasks independently
Preferred Skills and Qualifications:
Experience working on a newspaper or magazine

Marketing and Media Coordinator

Geez magazine is looking for a part-time Marketing and Media Coordinator to work with the Editor and Art Director to execute social media, web updates, promotional material, press releases, and event planning. The ideal candidate will have aligned values, an interest in following social justice news, excellent proofreading skills, and confidence carrying out creative ideas. Ideal to live in metro-Detroit but not required. Could be done remotely.
RESPONSIBILITIES
Social media: Post and maintain entries on social media (e.g., Facebook, Twitter, Instagram) • Assist the Editor and Art Director in identifying content for social media • Prepare and execute a schedule for social media • Engage with online communities through responses to mentions and DMs
Geez website: Post selected articles and table of contents for each issue • Monitor website and communicate with web developer when needed • Make regular updates on the backend including adding blog posts, issue sneak peeks, call for pitches, study guides, coupon codes, and merchandise listings
Events: Help organise new issue release parties • Promote events on social media, through press, collaborations, advertising • Coordinate event details – book venues, order food, schedule photographer, and create promotional materials • Help manage and host events
Public Relations: Write and pitch press releases via email and cold calling • Identify newsworthy moments and propose strategies • Coordinate with video vendor
Required Skills/Qualifications:
Strong writer across platforms
A wry sense of humour
Self-motivated and organised
Professional experience working with Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram
Ability to anticipate projects and execute detailed plans
Comfortable working on the backend of web platforms or builders
Preferred Skills:
Experience writing and pitching press releases
Experience planning and coordinating events
Curious about new social trends and emerging platforms
Experience with Photoshop, InDesign, and/or video editing
Knowledge of HTML and CSS code
Tapped into the political moment and able to clearly articulate in support of justice communities around North America.

Poetry Editor
PAY: $100 quarterly

Review poetry submissions each quarter and make assignments for upcoming issues.
Coordinate addresses and payment methods for published poets.
Communicate with the editor around themes, editorial direction of each issue, and deadlines.
This position can be done remotely.
