Geez magazine calls for designer for its PerSisters issue
Geez magazine seeks an activist-oriented, feminist-minded woman (or someone who identifies as such) to design and lay out its all-women issue on feminism.
Geez is an image-intense, activist-inspired magazine for people on the fringes of faith—the over-churched, out-churched, un-churched, and maybe even the un-churchable. For more information, see the call for pitches for the PerSisters issue and have a look around our website. Geez is available on newsstands in Winnipeg at Mondragon, Organic Planet, Hull’s and McNally Robinson.
Work on this issue will take place between November 1, 2012 and February 4, 2013, with the busiest time between January 20 and February 4.
Honorarium is $750 for the layout and design of one 84-page issue, from concept development to preparing hi-res pre-press PDFs. The existing template for the magazine can be used or modified (you don’t have to start from scratch).
The guest designer will collaborate closely with our art director/editor, and to a lesser extent with the lead editor for this issue. Geez seeks to be a non-hierarchical workplace, modelled after a workers’ co-op; the guest editor will be considered part of the team.
Deadline for applications is October 15, 2012.
Please send a resumé, a sample of your work and a cover letter outlining your familiarity with design software and your vision for the design and layout of Geez’s feminism issue to editor [at] geezmagazine [dot] org or by mail or courier to Geez magazine, 400 Edmonton Street, Winnipeg, MB, R3B 2M2.
