Rhubarb Mennonite Theatre issue launch

The Mennonite Literary Society launches Rhubarb’s Mennonite Theatre issue on Sunday, October 27th at Sam’s Place, 159 Henderson Highway, Winnipeg. Doors open at 2:00, program at 3:00 featuring Steven Ratzlaff presenting a monologue from his work and actress Maggie Nagle reading from Patrick Friesen’s new dramatic work “crazy bone.” Both playwrights are featured in the issue guest edited by professor, editor, dramaturge and writer Per Brask. We anticipate announcing the winner of the Winnipeg Mennonite Theatre (WMT) one-act play writing contest during the afternoon.

Faspa follows the program including veggies, buns, cheese, sausage, fruit and Rhubarb Platz. Maggie Nagle was a part of the original production of The Shunning directed by Kim McCaw at the Prairie Theatre Exchange in 1985. She has worked as an actor at PTE, MTYP, RMTC, WJT and Theatre Projects. A long time believer in new Canadian work for the theatre she workshopped A Short History of Crazy Bone two years ago. She is delighted to be able to read an excerpt of this wonderful new piece of Patrick’s at the launch.

Steven Ratzlaff is a Winnipeg actor and writer. His play Dionysus in Stony Mountain was produced by Theatre Projects Manitoba (TPM) in 2012. A one-act version was produced at the 2009 Winnipeg Fringe Festival. He wrote and performed Last Man in Puntarenas as part of TPM’s 2010 In the Chamber series. This Fall he is performing in MTC’s production of Harvey.
